Hi there
I am a first time buyer , trying to buy in the region of 150-175000 pounds . Could anybody recommend me good books that I can read regarding what to look for in a property , how to get its price down by bargaining and finally how to develop a property. Please could everybody make a list of books that they found useful before they embarked on 'the big hunt'.
cheers :A

That's a big list!
Andrew Smith's House Buying sticky thread at the top of this page (it has me as the author though) is almost everything you need to know as a FTB.
Martin has also written a guide to mortgages (I'll find you a link).

Developing houses? Well, I guess Sarah Beany's books are a good starting point! She covers at least the basic building block of how to work out what price to pay (it has NOTHING to do with asking price
) There's a billion mistakes to make and, like any job, you don't learn without experience. There isn't a magic formula. Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

A combination of this site (including the mortgage guide) and Buying a House on a Budget for Dummies helped me get through it. When we decided to buy a house, I went to the bookshop and had a look at about 25 different house buying books, but the Dummies book gave the best advice about what you need to do at each stage of the buying process. There is a bigger version about selling, buy-to-let etc. as well.0
