Sorry if there is already a thread regarding this! I dont use forums very often!
I am getting married on 9th June and we are going on honeymoon to a cottage near Bamburgh, Northumberland.
I know we will probably eat out a few times (as it is our honeymoon) but I wondered if anyone had any suggestions of romantic food ideas for us to make in the cottage, so we can keep costs down..and perhaps just be alone with the sunset beach!! (sickly huh!)
Thanks in advance
Elaine

Not sure about romantic food but you have a few supermarkets in that area.

We are regular visitors to Northumberland and there is a Morrisons and a (relatively new) Sainsbury's in Alnwick ( pronounced anick).
They both have some ready made foods you could make a nice picnic from and of course champagne!
There are pubs that do food in most of the villages and towns around the area, not cheap, but for an odd night out worth a treat especially on your Honeymoon!
Bamborough doesn't have much in the way off shops for groceries and such, so you might want to take a bottle of wine/ supper/breakfast supplies to tide you over before you head out to the nearest supermarket, when you arrive.
I hope the weather is kind to you, the area is lovely and I don't know anyone who goes just the once, it's the kind of place that draws you back.............Holy Island/Lindisfarne is worth a trip ( check the safe tide crossing times.......just google that and add 2011) it is very other worldly and although it get busy with tourists you can always go back and stay on the island in the future if you like the location..........( which we have, it's very peaceful when the day trippers have gone, just the sound of the seals.......which sound like wolves from a distance!)
Hope some of that helps, have a lovely time:beer:0 -
Fantastic area and would be my dream UK honeymoon destination! Have been on the beach at Bamburgh on a summer bank holiday and hardly a person in sight - bliss!
Might not be many shops in the Bamburgh but the pasties from the butchers are yum!!!
I always think posh picnicky type things are romantic - olives, continental meats, nice cheese - stuff you can pick rather than having to sit at a formal table - but's personal choice I guess!
Whatever - congratulations and have a great time

Thanks.. I think we will go to supermarket in Berwick as it will be on way down! (from Perthshire!) my husband-to-be has very fond memories of Northumberland. Holy Isle/Lindisfarne is on our to do list (although tidal times not so good!). and we want to go to Alnwick castle and gardens and hubby to be wants to go back to Farne Isles. Then its chilling out! Thankfully we dont drink alcohol..but might bring some nice fizzy juice! I think a few pub lunches may be in order as we have been blessed with gifts so we can pay for things as wee bit extra. Its nice to be off somewhere only a few hours drive away and no flying hassles or long journeys! and we have few days rest before we go!!
With 2 days of work to go....might get excited then and enjoy the run into the 9th!!Married 9th June 2011 my wonderful soulmate, Im so blessed! :T0 -
What a lovely post. Congratulations - hope you have a wonderful and memorable day.
ps I'd take 'picky bits', strawberries and lots of chocolate xxx0 -
We self-catered on our honeymoon and bought the posh M&S ready-meals and pre-prepared foods to put together some nice meals that were cheaper than going out. It was a treat as we don't normally buy that kind of stuff and really enjoyable. Our honeymoon was in the winter but I like others' suggestions that some "posh" picnicky stuff would be lovely.0

we had a self catering honey moon and did the m&s option. DH is cooked breakfast fiend so we had a fry up for brunch most days then a easy to put together meal like steak, salad and new pot or a fancy pizza and salads. Our cottage was half way up a mountain accessible once by quad bike so we took it all with us!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

Do you have any specific ingredients you need ideas for? What do you like to eat?
Here are some threads which may help
An OS valentine meal (for romantic meal ideas)
caravan camping and holiday cookery
travel food help please
travelling - food to keep me going
Healthyish meals using a kettle
self catering from your hotel room

Wow what a friendly bunch you are! I hate posting on most forums as its not normally as friendly.
Im not sure where a M&S is near Bamburgh, we have been given vouchers too!
We have no set food with us as for once we havent really given it much thought...might be that Thursday has taken all the time and organisation this time round!! Cant believe the wedding is so so close, I cant wait now as all the wee details should be nice for a traditional scottish wedding!
I love picky teas etc though so will try plan those one night and maybe get someone to make me a breakfast one morning!!!
I hope the rain just stays away for a short time at least!!
