weed killer
can anyone recommend aa good weed killer that will at least threaten the 'mares tail' weed. ( sorry dont know its tecnical name but is a right pain!)The price of the stuff is so expensive these days, i cant afford to waste anymore money. They all promose so much but dont deliver!

The only weedkiller on the amateur market is a glyphosate based one. You will need to bruise the stems and leaves of the plant before application, otherwise it will just run straight off (the plant has a silica-based coating).
It is a prehistoric plant and has very deep roots, so be prepared for it to come back but a couple of applications should weaken it. Then make sure you hoe it at least once a week, and you will get on top of it.0 -

In addition to Yorkie's advice, I would buy the concentrated stuff and make it up a bit stronger than they recommend.0

Probably because they think it is more friendly to the environment than a chemical weed killer is, I know its more satisfying
