What I can't understand is why the car can't be added to the policy as a second vehicle. That way when it's sold it can be removed without cancelling the policy - just an amendment charge at worst. Forget about the "temporary" status.

Well, AXA say it too sporty a model for them to insure on a temporary basis.

My point was that, instead of trying to insure it on a temporary basis, just tell AXA that you wish to insure a second car. There may be a charge for this and obviously the premiums will go up. You can then sell the car however and have it removed from the policy. Much like sticking on a second driver.

Are you sure most policies have this facility - just to stick a second car on.
I know there are specific multi car policies you can buy, but are you sure this is an amendement offered by most single car annual polcies?

I've discussed this with several companies when insuring our second car (when we had one). Ultimately we always chose to have a second policy because her indoors needed to build up a no-claims bonus but the option was there to have two cars on the same policy.

I might be wrong but didn't think that adding a second car to a standard policy was possible on anything other than a temporary basis in today's cherry picking script driven insurance world.

When I log in to my AXA account the only options I have are 'Add Temporary Additional Driver' and 'Add Temporary Vehicle'. There's no facility to add a vehicle to the policy for the life of the policy. Maybe I'll give them a call tomorrow to see if it's possible but I fear it'll be a case of either:

    a) They only allow additional vehicles temporarily (mine doesn't pass their criteria).
    OR
    b) I'd have to change the car covered (pretty pointless) leaving my new car uninsured (have to get a new policy for that etc etc)

Yes you can't just add a second car on the policy, other than as a temporary addition, which in this case they won't do. But I would appeal this with the underwriters. I can understand them not wanting to just add cars such as a Z4 on, as and when someone requires cover. But this car has been in the ownership of the OP for a while. They only want cover while trying to sell it.

I suspect AXA will provide an annual policy, with a discount for having another car Insured with them. But the policy will come with cancellation terms, that could make it an expensive option.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.

Ahh, not something I've ever done, when I've test driven cars I've relied on DOC cover and accepted that if I crashed it I would have bought it

All well and good until it comes to handing the money over when its upside down in a ditch and you only have third part cover, its cash first here or WALK.
