Feeding 2 adults 4 dinners on £15

hi all,

i have been reading all the great recipies on here and as i am on holiday from work this week i will be cooking the dinners. We normally set a budget of £40 pw for all dinners lunches and toliletries.

We have over spent on other things so now only have £15 left to feed 2 of us for 4 days.

Any suggestions on which recipies would help me come in on budget? we are not fussy eaters and will eat anything

thanks x

1x 1kg pack of mince, 2 onions, 2 tins chopped tomatoes, value sheet pasta, pack of value spaghetti, butter, value rice, chilli powder, tin of kidney beans, flour and milk will give you lasagne, meatballs and spaghetti, chilli and rice and meatballs and rice. I've bought that lot for less than a tenner before.

    Hi Lisa,

It might be an idea to list what you have in your cupboards/fridge/freezer so that we can give you ideas for using up what you have. In the meantime these threads may give you some inspiration:

I've just made a huge pot of bolognese sauce with 500g pack of mince, 2 onions, 2 tins chopped tomatoes, 2 carrots, mushrooms and peppers plus a few herbs. With some pasta, that would probably see you through!:rotfl: As unixgirluk suggests, adding red beans and chilli powder (or curry powder) would ring the changes with rice and/or chips.

What about good old egg and chips! Same ingredients would make omelettes or jackets. Baked beans on the side too. All above are healthy as well as cheap.

Is there anything in your cupboards you could use up? Good Luck.

Check out the recipes on the cheap-family-recipes.org website. If, as they say, you can feed a family of four for £100 a month, you can definitely do 4 dinners for two people on £15. Keeping to your budget would probably mean including whatever you have in your store-cupboard, fridge and freezer.

Half a dozen eggs? That's two meals right there. You're in clover!

i would get huge packet of mince, and so spag bol, add beans and chilli powder to make chilli then a sheperds pie

go shopping late on and try get some reduced veg you can use to bulk it out and to add to a quiche, or a bag of value pasta and make a sauce out of your tomatoes and garlic

so thats £2 for mince, an onion 20p, rice 75p, spuds £1 so thats well under £15 with plenty left for some extras

You could make the noodles, soften the onion/garlic (add a tin of tomatoes if you wanted) sweetcorn, add some sweet chilli sauce and serve with chicken of some sort yummy!

Mince, bulk out with lentils and make bolognaise and chilli, you could have the chilli 2 nights if you had it with rice one night and with nachos/tortillas another night.

i am going to make pasta arribiata (sp?) one night so thats my onion gone and one tin of tomatoes - i will buy a big bag of pasta and chilli flakes so thats £1.57 gone - this will do my lunch the next day too. i totally forgot that i am going to have to buy lunch for me this week too. so £13.43 for 3 lunches and 3 dinner.
