Both Clubs are good. The CC has more sites and more 5 van sites, the C&CC offers off-peak discounts to the over 55s (I think it is 55). I think the CC may have the edge on the standard of toilet facilities, but not by much. Otherwise they are pretty similar. Look at their websites and see which one has most sites in the areas you want to visit.

Thanks Peter - will have a look although over 30 years since I was in the CS. Not sure how I'd prove it though, seem to have mislaid my payslips... (too young to join the pension scheme at the time).
Don't worry about losing the payslips or the pension...they have other ways of checking up on you if they feel the need;)

Look at the web sites of each of them, they both have areas for non members. Membership is only about £35 and it saves you about £5 a night on non members fees. Both give you camp site guides, I think the CC guide is better than the CCC guide. CC you can book online without a deposit, CCC you need to pay a deposit. Both offer insurance to members. In our case it was cheaper to insure the van with CCC and to take European cover with CC. CCC offer over 55's special rates, CC offer lower midweek rates. CC magazine is better too.

They really are tremendous value with most of the one's I stay at costing less than £5 a night all in. Some don't have leccy so those who like TV might have to look at the site details before they book.

I really don't understand people with a modern caravan including all mods cons choosing to pay extra to visit a site that offers all those mod cons. I've never used a caravan site with all the facilities perhaps if I did I'd see the point but I can't get over the cost compared to the Certified Locations.

We often have to use a tent as overflow and it's never been a problem at any of the locations we've used. Although most of these sites are limited to 5 vans they are often underused and particularly if you are "off peak" you will probably have the field to yourself.

As the C&CC only have about half the number of location the CC have I'll probably not change but I'd be interested to hear how much the Certified Locations costs work out with the Caravan & Camping club?
and do they charge per caravan or per person + van + awning etc?
The Caravan Club (anyone got an old C&CC SITE BOOK they could lend?)

I've never had a competitive quote from the Caravan club insurance. I've found their technical help useful at times. They offer a Caravan / Vehicle matching service which I've used. Tells you if the car you want to buy is the right power/weight ratio to tow safely.

I pay the extra during the summer so the kids can enjoy great swimming pool facilities and free football coaching and such ... they also get to meet new friends many of whom can be relied upon to be at the same site very regularly and they call round to see each other very much like at home! I can't stomach the school holiday prices at Haven however! Give me 5 nights on one of their leccy pitches at £35 all-in i.e. with 75% discount and then I am happy!

But now its winter and the big sites are shut, the small ones come back into their own for us.

Chacun a son goute, and all that!

don't know if its been mentioned but you get a free magazine from the caravan club each month (I think also from caravan and camping club)which if you ask me is worth the membership joining fee alone

As a point of interest to some, CSMA produce a fine magazine, which used to be free to all members (I think new members get a free single issue), and is indeed still free to buyers of the Breakdown Insurance.
