replacement electric shower

i need to replace my shower as the thermostat has gone faulty it warms up then cuts out and cold water runs through i then have to switch it off or turn up temp control very high until it kicks in again.
my query is the current shower is a 10.5kw but only fitted to a 6mm cable i know that it should be on a 10mm cable but electrician that fitted it 5 years ago said that would be ok
the showers make is triton and was only cheap if i was looking at getting a mira sport either 7.5kw or 8.5kw would i notice a difference in power or would the better make compensate..
thanks

I can heartily recommend this shower as I've had to replace mine recently.

Designa is the same as Galaxy.

Just as good as Triton or Mira and cheaper.

Given you have the 6mm I wouldn't go above the 8.5.

    Hope this helps.
  • in the winter now with my triton 10.5kw the actual power is not that good im worried that if i only get a 8.5kw shower it will be virtually useless in winter

It all depends on the length and the way the cable is laid. In theory 6mm if not a long run and on the surface (clipped to a wall etc) and not thermally insulated is good for 46 amps. A 10500 watt shower, depending on your voltage where you are is 43 - 45 amps. Personally I would be happier at 10mm. An electrician will advise you on how hard it would be to upgrade the cable or if the way the 6mm has been laid is suitable for full load, I wouldn't give up on the higher power just yet.

The on/off switch has failed after only 7 months of use.

According to my electrican, GlenDimplex ( they own the Designa/Galaxy range) believe I have put too much pressure on the switch when switching it off.

Never heard such claptrap in my life. These showers come with 2 year guarantees but Dimplex obviously don't like honouring their warranty.

I've also been informed that it will take up to two weeks for them to deliver a new switch.

Baths for us till after Xmas now!
