Safe mode won't work??

Hi guys,

I have windows xp on one of my laptops.
Now and again I like to run malwarebytes in safe mode.

Today, it will not boot up in any of the safe mode settings, other than boot normally or in last known good configuration.

Doesn't "seem" to have any viruses and boots fine in normal mode.

Any ideas?

It just says something like, apologies but can't boot into safe mode, maybe a hardware / software change has caused this.

Does that make sense??

The options are there - they just don't work.

If you click start then run, type regedit then click OK, have you got this key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SafeBoot

If so and you click it to highlight, have you got two keys on the right, value not set with cmd.exe underneath?

If you click start then run, type sfc /scannow (with the space) then click OK, does it run the scan without asking for the XP CD
