Hi polejunkie,
This website has diagrams and instructions for folding terry nappies that may help:

Perhaps you could experiment and see if you can find one that suits you? Once you've had more replies I'll move your thread over to the families board where there should be lots of new mums who will be able to give more advice.

Thank you, this is just what I need.0

The ones I bought were pre-folded with poppers and inserts, so sorry I can't be of use. Just wanted to say best of luck and hope they work out for you :-)0

i used terrys for my twins and it saved me a fortune!
as for folding them, i used similar to the gaynor fold when they got a bit bigger, but kind of had a pleat in the bum end with an extra nappy liner in it to contain the poo!!
well done for persevering!!:Twading through the treacle of life!

I bought the terries purely because they are colourful and looked quite cool. Why have I not seen these before???? Life could have been so much easier. I saw the cotton bottoms sets in boots and mothercare but the prices are so much, I didnt see any others so presumed no one made real nappies anymore. It was just a chance find on ebay and found a rather thriving nappy trade.0

Highly recommend nappy nippas for terry nappies, much easier than pins.

There's lots of "how to" videos on Youtube. Are you pregnant and practicing on a teddy bear or using a real live infant?!
If the former is your teddy of baby proportions? If not you'll get strange results. If the latter, terries can look pretty bulky on newborns. You could try muslin cloths to start with.
There is a fold that is supposed to be good for newborns. I found a fold that worked for me and stuck with it (the Gaynor fold for girls).
Btw for anyone thinking about ways to MSE their babies - terries are fab. We spent around £60 on the whole kit; 36 nappies, 4 wraps, nippas and a nappy bin. They also wash well and dry quickly. We Made-it-3 on 28/01/11 with birth of our gorgeous DD.0 -
yay for cloth nappies. We use shaped ones with motherease wraps, mainly second hand and we love them! In a few days it will be second nature!
good luck OP xMum to gorgeous baby boy born Sept 2010:j0 -
OP, you need the nippa to be stretched tight, otherwise the nappy will fall off no matter how well it is folded. Put the side bits on so it is reasonably tight, then use the vertical bit to tension it - it will feel really quite tight, but isn't pulling on baby's waist.0
