Hi all,
My partner and I are recently got engaged and are planning a September 2012 wedding.
Whilst living in Cardiff, we have never been to a wedding in the area so have little knowledge of the possible venues available popular and slightly different and were wondering if anyone could suggest some venues to go and look at?
Our ceremony is arranged for a church in Cardiff, but need a venue for the reception.
We are open to all ideas, but would let to have some control on the catering and drinks etc.
So even a suggested filed with space for a marquee and parking is a welcome suggestion.
hope you can help
Thanks :j

Hi wdbamber, no suggestons for you unfortunately! I'm also in the area (well, north of junction 26), and I'm struggling to find somewhere that isn't a hotel too. I haven'tcbeen to a wedding in over ten years, which is making things really difficult.Good enough is good enough, and I am more than good enough!:j

Have you looked at Coed Hills just off a48 towards Cowbridge, pretty laid back place but they have a barn and a yurt. Or space to put up your own tent.
Or Farmers Barn in Llantwit Major have a barn that you can use as a wedding reception, sorry cant put up links but you can google them!
I am getting married at Nash Point in September and using the farmers field behind to put a tipi up for the reception as I couldn't find a hotel I liked!
Good luck!0 -
What about Caerphilly Castle (ok not in Cardiff but I know someone who got married in Penarth and had their reception there!)
not sure if Castle Coch will leet you just have a reception or whether you have to get married there as well though I do know there's a tight restriction on numbers.
Cardiff Castle?
There's a hotel just cardiff side of Caerphilly mountain as well - sorry can't remember the name of it but its a Best Western hotel .....there's another hotel slightly nearer Cardiff on the same road - I think that's the Parc Hotel.

I have never been to a wedding in Cardiff but don't live too far away.
City hall is supposed to be lovely, the new country house is as well. Castle coch and cearphilly castle are good as well. I heard of someone who hired the upstairs of the stadium out for a wedding as well!
Ask your friends, work collegues, put it on your face book status (you'd be suprised how many random replies you'll get)Make £10 a day, October 2023 - £105/£3100 -
Just stumbled on this thread, so probably too late, but anyway:
1) If you end up looking at hotels, I can't recommend The Bear Hotel in Cowbridge highly enough - my sister got married there last year and it was great. Lovely venue, plenty of rooms, great food and, most importantly, the staff were just *so* friendly and accommodating, incredibly professional - the kind of service you don't get in this country very often...
2) You mentioned a field for a marquee....just a word of caution, this isn't the cheap, easy idea you might think it is (I'm having a marquee reception in 3 and a bit weeks!) - the cost of the marquee, generator, lighting, flooring, toilets, furniture, catering tent, decorations, sound systems, bar etc etc all add up - and then you have to add catering costs on top...it's far from the cheapest way of getting married and there's an awful lot of stuff to co-ordinate. Just food for thought, anyway0 -
Resurrecting an old thread to find out if anyone has any new suggestions for a civil ceremony/wedding breakfast and reception venue in Cardiff!
We've got 75 day guests and we have budgeted around £5000-£6000 for the wedding ceremony, breakfast, alcohol, and evening catering. We would like the option of inviting around 25 evening guests too. We're after a relaxed champagne afternoon tea followed by hog roast rolls (or bacon/sausage rolls if not possible).
Any bright ideas?0 -
I saw don't tell the bride the other night and they got married at Dyffryn Gardens. Looked absolutely lovely. The ceremony was almost outdoors, it was in a sort of walled garden and they had to step forward a few steps so they were underneath the arch so they were legally classed as indoors. Not sure where they had their reception though, I have it recorded so will watch it later on to find out
They went to a farm somewhere IIRC...0 -
I did debate weather to give out this location as I havn't booked my wedding venue yet... but I will share and keep my fingers crossed that no one else books it when I would like it! Atlantic College is AMAZING. Its like a Harry potter Castle, garden and beach all in one venue. Google Atlantic College Wedding and definately worth a visit to check it out! #spilledthebeans0
