New Roof!

Hi there.
Our buyer's survey came back with a query about the roof and the first roofers quote has come back to them today for £10,000 +VAT. This is WAY more than we were expecting for a two bed Victorian terrace. We are going to gather some more quotes but con anyone give me an idea whether this seems reasonable or not.
We were assuming we would go 50:50 with the buyer on repairs etc. but can't really afford this much!
Help!

I have a house that also needs a new roof. I have been quoted over 10k , however I have agrey slate roof which to you and I looks like stone slabs. This is much more expensive than the traditional blue slate roof which you will almost certainly have on your house. I have enquired about getting mine replaced with a blue slate roof and having been a rough guide of about 6k. the cost will also depend on the area that you live and bear in mind that roofers are inundated with work at the moment and can virtually charge what they want which may not be the case if you can hang on until spring/summer. On the bright side you roof will almost certainly be better that the sieve that I have above my house. Good luck anyway.0

I wouldn't assume you would go 50:50 with the buyer unless they have agreed to this; all subject to negotiation.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. I could be very suspicious here and point out that you are going halves but they have "organised" the quote. Hmmm!chouchoutan wrote:.....Our buyer's survey came back with a query about the roof and the first roofers quote has come back to them today for £10,000 +VAT. ......A house isn't a home without a cat.
Those are my principles. If you don't like them, I have others.
I have writer's block - I can't begin to tell you about it.
You told me again you preferred handsome men but for me you would make an exception.
