Does anyone else suffer?
Any ideas, treatments to deal with it.
I'm in a bizzare form of agony at the moment and faced with loading up on a packet of co-drydamol and a couple of sedatives to get to sleep.
But then I won't be up till this time tomorrow and it will start all over again.
Mine get better after exercise so took doggy for a walk at midnight lol but even that isnt helping much anymore.
Currently resisting the urge to stick a knife in the back of my knee's just to change the pain.
I've tried alot of the recommended stuff online, bananas, heat, baths etc but to not much help

Hi - I can empathise, I've suffered from Restless Leg Syndrome since I was a kid on and off. I've not had it for years actually, but recently seem to be getting it again which is possibly something to do with the fact that I'm pregnant. I don't get a pain as such, but it's like a sensation where I've got too much energy and need to urgently move my foot (usually my right one). It's sooo frustrating.
It seems to be worse if my feet are hot, and when I was a kid I used to get up and sit on the edge of the bath and stick my feet under the cold tap. More recently the heat thing does get to me, but I almost find it's more psychological than anything, though on a physical basis (and perhaps it's actually psychological) I find going for a wee helps and actually when I'm busting for the loo the restlessness can be at its worst.
I don't have any real advice to offer to be honest, just wanted to say that you're not alone. I'll be interested to see what other people have to say on this too.

Guess why I'm up at this time of the night/morning?
I've suffered with RLS since I was a child. My mum and DD are sufferers too.
I get it when my legs and feet are hot, or when they're constricted, like sitting on a coach or in a cinema where you can't really move your legs about.
My kitchen floor is nice and cold, so you'll often find me standing out there in the middle of the night!0 -
Restless legs are terrible aren't they. People think you're crackers when you tell them you'd happily cut your legs off to stop the jumping. When I was small, I always used to try and go for a wee but I think that that was just a symptom of being kept awake, you'll do anything to try and stop the jumping around.
Can't offer any advice I'm afraid, just the knowledge that you are not alone. It sucks doesn't it?Debt: 16/04/2007:TOTAL DEBT [strike]£92727.75[/strike] £49395.47:eek:   £43332.28 repaid 100.77% of £43000 target.MFiT T2: Debt [STRIKE]£52856.59[/STRIKE] £6316.14 £46540.45 repaid 101.17% of £46000 target.2013 Target: completely clear my [STRIKE]£6316.14[/STRIKE] £0 mortgage debt. £6316.14 100% repaid.0 -
I suffer from this when Im very anaemic. Might be worth getting your bloods checked as I know its a sign of anaemia xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Another possible cause.
In 2004 I had a back operation that installed 8 two inch screws, 6 plastic spacers, and elastic bands into my sacrum / spine.
A consequence of this, was the occasional bliss of restless legs.
Perhaps you have a back problem was my thought. Walking the dog may have been relieving the condition for awhile.0 -
Tonic water is meant to help due to quinine content0

Just stumbled across this. I don’t suffer from it but I did during pregnancy! It drove me mad - particularly as my legs were so swollen, I had to lie with them elevated on the settee all evening so couldn’t really move much to try to alleviate the restlessness. I didn’t realise it was something people could suffer form in general. You have my sympathies. I remember reading somewhere that you should ensure you have enough iron in your diet.0

I also had this quite when I was pregnant, I wonder if there is a known link between the two.Smart price rocks!0

OH has this - he reckon it's much better since the Dr added Gabapentin to his drug regime - may be just coincidence of course.0

Managed to drift off around 4 thanks to the sedatives, although feel like i've been hit by a train this morning, I would normally still be asleep but some little demon in the house decided to let the dog out of the crate and she's wee'd in the kids room.
I've got some blood tests coming up for looking at the cause, seems the doctors are finally trying to do something about it.
I haven't tried Tonic water yet but will give it a try thanks go cat.0
