Help please- Advice on removing the hot water tank

We have got oil central heating.A combi boiler so do not need to store hot water The immersion heater has broken on the tank in the airing cupboard so it is unusable even if we needed it -- which we don't. I want to remove the tank from the airing cupboard to create more space. Is this a big job -- do I need professionals in? Thanks in advance

Can't answer the question, but if you get the pro's in, make sure you keep the tank and then take it to the scrap dealers to weigh in. Probably worth about £70 as copper is very valuable.

Why not get the immersion fixed (usually a simple job to change it) instead so that you have a back up should the combi break down?

I imagine the space would be more beneficial - I was thinking of doing this when I upgraded to a combi so that I had a spare.
Instead I made the bedroom bigger by knocking out the cupboard.

The first thing to do is to drain the hot water cylinder. When this has been done you need to check to see if all of your hot outlets still run. This proves that your HWC is not being used by any tap, which it may be even though you have a combi.

Do that and then post back.

Thanks for your replies and tips about worth etc. Think we shall need to get some advice before we start hacking it out! Space is the desired result!
    Thanks again
