How can looking at the electoral register be a of waste precious time?It would take all of 30 seconds ,when the OP wasted nearly an hour on the phone and it was not her fault. Yes and ask for a goodwill gesture.

It would take considerable time out of a working week if each and every one needed checking- and after all if mail has come back RTS then that is a fair assumption that the person is not there. Also, being on the ER isn't a guarantee that someone lives there without other factors to back it up, eg proof that they accept mail at that address...and back to square one we go.

I agree that the OP has been put out considerably but in 99% of cases the No Trace would have been put on legitimately.

Wow what a wonderful free country we used to live in,now it is just rules and they must be enforced ,no common sense ,for example look at the electoral register.

The electoral register now has an opt out so you can have your name taken off the public list.

For instance, myself, my OH and our daughter are on the electoral roll but if you were to look us up you wouldn't find us.

The banks are private money making institutions and therefore they have no right of access to the full electoral list.

    No it doesn't.

You are mistaken - anyone can go to the council offices and look at the full electoral register, and you will be on it. The one you are opting out of is the edited one that is sold. http://www.electoralcommission.org.uk/your-vote/access.cfm

Why would you be on the electoral register if you did not live there ,what would be the point.Accept that the bank thought it was to much trouble and it was easier to block the account ,and you probably work for them.

Wow you are Bossy, lucky for you that they could not remove you as stated by Paul ,because it would have affected your credit score.

Conceivably, they'd just moved house, and hadn't updated the ER. Or maybe it's the 'dead spot' between (IIRC) October and December where they do a bulk update and the one being looked at by institutions is out of date. The ER, while useful for credit scoring, is not a definitive document that is 100% correct 100% of the time. (See threads passim about Experian et al.)

But it would be an indicator ,like the fact that the mail was returned ,not a 100% accurate correct 100% of the time as stated ,but they reacted to it and blocked the account, even though the fault was bank originated.

Yes but 99.9 percent of the time the fault is not bank related and so the stop is put on legitimately. Lets put the shoe on the other foot- your granny moves house and forgets to tell the bank straight away. Meanwhile the bank recieve RTS mail that has been sent to her but does nothing about it immediately. You'd be happy with that would you?!

And no I don't work in a bank actually.
