Additional Cable for Lamp

Is there such a thing?
I currently have a table lamp in my bedroom and I wondered if there was a small cable I could buy with a switch on to make it switch on/off like a bedside lamp. If so, what's it called, I've tried googing various words with no success.
Thanks

You can buy a longer piece of cable and an in line switch(teh one that goes on the cable) from any decent electrical suppliers. I think Wilkinsons do them too.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

You require one of these - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BLACK-IN-LINE-3-CORE-6amp-TORPEDO-SWITCH-LAMP-LIGHT-/260506219001?pt=UK_Light_Fittings&hash=item3ca76171f9
You would just cut the current cable and wire this in-line, if you need a longer cable then you can add it to the length at the same time.0 -
You can get remote control sockets which don't need any wiring.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

Not had much luck with these things - I'm an electrician and have seen many of these fail internally.
I have a few that were spontaneously operating, it was then found that the wireless heating controller was switching the socket.
Had another case of a neighbours electric garage door operating the switch.
They also use a small amount of electricity when not on.0
