Hi
forgive me if I seem green but I do not know where to start about claiming back PPI on barclaycard and numerous store cards
I did write to barclaycard a few years ago when reclaiming first was in the news. They wrote back to me refusing to pay but cancelled the ongoing ppi on my card as I obviously did not want it on the account! Ha no, what I wanted was a refund!
I also have a house of fraser card and a debenhams card taken out when they were run by ge money. They have since been taken over by santander. Reading other posts on here it looks like a minefield with these two!
Any help and suggestions would be appreciated.
Also is it worth going to one of the firms that do it for you even though they take a portion?

Hi there
First of all please do not use a claims company, they will charge and deduct your refund if your successful.
Its simple enough to do, and its a matter of just completing the reclaim questionnaire as on step 3 below, send to the head office or complaints dept of whoever sold you the product, keep copies as well, and allow 8 weeks for a decision, good luck.

You mean GE Capital (now owned by Santander)
GE Money dont do credit cards.0 -
Barclaycard will almost certainly have given you six months to go to FOS and that will have expired.
Unless you can prove that you were so ill since then that it has only just become possible to take Barclaycard to FOS then that complaint is dead in the water. You could, in theory, take them to court but if it is more than six years since the cover was taken out and more than three years since you complained to Barclaycard they would be able to use the Limitation Act 1980 to stop your claim.
Regarding GE Capital, FOS can only consider complaints relating to matters occurring on or after 14 January 2005 because it did not subscribe to the GISC code of practice.
The fact that other businesses owned by Santander are covered before then does not change this.
However, the GISC code required that insurers subscribing to it only accept business from intermediaries who also subscribed. Therefore if the underwriter (i.e. the insurance company) subscribed you would have grounds for complaint that you would never have taken out the policy if it had not breached the code by accepting business from an intermediary that did not subscribe.0 -

Santander says it will not consider compensating any customers who have already had their complaint rejected.
State-backed RBS and NatWest say they will offer redress 'in line with the standards the FSA now requires' — which does not include complaints already rejected. Lloyds Banking Group, which includes Halifax and Cheltenham & Gloucester, simply says that customers should contact them directly. Barclays and HSBC on the other hand, say that customers who have already been dismissed should get in touch again because the banks are now assessing complaints differently.
