it's £1100 a month for a 2 bed flat in central brighton. And that's not really very helpful....coming up with rent in advance and a deposit isn't an option. Although I would get more housing benefit if we lived in a one bed place, it's finding a half decent place that will take one job seeker and one student (we had lots of trouble finding one that would take us on as students before that wasn't a dump.)

Don't start your career with a conviction for benefit fraud.

Why don't you tell us how it's fraud?

If you and your b/f are sharing a room, yet his brother has a room to himself, it's not really fair that you are splitting the rent three ways. Could the brother pay a bit more, in recognition of the fact that he has a room to himself?
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

I'll give you a clue from the first post.

"I don't want to lie, but at the same time we can't afford to live off his loan, so I may well have to say I live on my own."

sadly not- he is doing a course that charges £6000 a year (I'm not sure how it works, as they are part of the university of sussex, but at the same time they are a seperate organisation?! Which somehow means they charge the standard degree course fees for the uni.sussex part, plus extra for their fees.) So his grants/overdraft have to go towards paying for his course fees as he can only get the standard maximum tuition fee loan (about £3100 a year.)

It seems that his brother may not continue with university now anyway- his course allows him to finish this year with a prof.diploma, so he may move back home. This would allow me and my partner to live in a cheaper, 1 bedroom flat which would mean I could get all my rent paid for- I just have to find somewhere that will allow us as a student and a job seeker!

    Thanks for the replies :)
