Hello all,
I'm working from home & use the above phone. I'd really like to be able to move around the house, (preferably without having to buy a 12 metre ethernet cable & also linking together extension leeds for the power pack lead!) but need to be able to see my phones display-to see if a) I need to answer it (direct calls for collegues also ring through on all the companies IP phones) & b)-which media source the call is from....so this rules out just forwarding say to a walkaround landline or mobile....
In non-technical 'baby' terms can anyone advise if this is possible....???! I could allways I suppose buy a walk-around I.P phone with a display (if such things exist??!) but would not be sure if my employers would need to programme it into our internet network???
Thanks...!
You guys/gals were a great help with my previous issues!

I use a hacked Home Hub 2A (aka Thomson TG797n) and standard DECT telephones0

Sorry Phil....don't quite understand what you mean & there's no way I'd be able to hack anything....(!).
The most important thing is that I can SEE THE DISPLAY so I know where the calls are coming from. A mute/hold button would be usefull but not essential. Recently our Head Office were changing us onto a new internet connection. As i was sent the new connection surely I can use this on a new phone? For the MITEL this was the instructions given.......
We have now completed the reprogramming of the phone system onto our new internet connection.
Any staff will now need to access the phone system throughthis new connection. Please follow the steps below carefully and it should all work OK.
1. Unplug your phone from the power
2. Press and hold 7 & 8 and plug it back in again - continue holding the 7 & 8 keys until the screen reads 1 - DB Programming.
3. Press 1 to go into the programming of the phone
4. Press the outgoing key (bottom right button) until the display asks for the "Remote IP"
5. You will see the IP address - this is what will need to be changed. Below is what it currently reads, next to what it needs to say. You move from each number by pressing the # key on your phone.
87.86.257.35 ---> 213.247.139.220
87.86.251.36 ---> 213.242.139.222
87.86.255.37 ---> 213.241.139.214
87.86.253.38 ---> 213.249.139.215
Example - if your phone reads 87.86.251.35 you would type 213 # 246 # 139 # 220
6. Press outgoing again until your display reads Press 1 to save - Press 1
7. Press any key to reboot the phone
If you make any mistakes, simply start again from step 1
This should now connect via the new connection.
So.....as I know the IP code (& my remote I.P) to connect to surely it just needs programming into the new phone to work??
So....to my (un-technical!) mind I guess the phone is IRRELEVENT as long as it's programmed to connect to the RIGHT internet connection????
I've been seriously looking at VOIP/I.P. phones anyway as our phone bills are too high-why pay Virgin £14 line rental & £5 calls a month?? The only calls really on the landline are via an override provider to France-these are free on many voip/ip companies...
Anyway...I'm digressing. Would something like THIS http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gigaset-A580-DECT-Cordless-Phone/dp/B001IBGW7U do the trick? When the calls come in the source is spelt out on the display-nothing else appears when phone rings. Would the 'source' letters appear on the display of this phone???0 -
Sorry Phil....don't quite understand what you mean & there's no way I'd be able to hack anything....(!).
What Phil from Gloucester is saying is if the MITEL VOIP phone is SIP/RTP compliant then you could simply replace it with cordless telephony kit.
If you can obtain all of the VOIP settings from your current IP phone, then you could use an analogue telephony adaptor (ATA) as found on the BT HomeHub2 or the Linksys RT21P2.
To the ATA you would connect a standard DECT base station and use DECT cordless telephone handsets which support caller line identification (CLI), if you need that. That's exactly what we do. Call spend with the landline supplier is now non-existent.
It looks like your current MITEL VOIP phone is just a re-badge of the Avaya 4622 SW IP phone..

Is this your current phone?0 -
Asbokid.....OOPS its a model 8622....sorry (!!!). So i need this ATA thingy (where would i find this....sorry to be dumb).... Any idea how i would get all the VOIP settings? I can get the remote IP address that I need to connect to our companys server. You maybe right about Virgin-will look into it but in a few weeks the company are installing a talk talk line anyway (getting rid of virgin was just for my personal calls really...I was going a bit off topic!).
The problem is that I don't know if my employers would give me all the voip/IP information...there are 2 types of call we receive. One is a direct line for all the sales staff that log in (flashes up their name) wjich ulness they're off you would not really want to answer.....the other calls are the sales calls. Problem is....the ringing tone is the SAME for both...& I need to see where the call is coming from.
I guess the company would want you to be at your desk even if it's dead...but a 'walkaround' IP phone would allow you to move around...!
Also....would the walkaround phones have enough range to pick up a signal outdoors (just a few feet from house) & can they be 'dual use' (ie when not working get/make voip calls from friends etc)...
Also (& it's a big but!) there is a 'log in' button on my present phone....how would I get around that? I suppose I could plug old phone in...log in...unplug & switch to new phone?
Sorry for the delay in replying...THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!0 -

If you were really determined, you could analyse the SIP network traffic both to and from the phone. From the packet analysis you could probably discover the phone's VOIP settings. With luck the phone will be using the standard SIP protocol and its VOIP account/server settings could be used with a different phone.

Thanks again!
Looks like I'll be walking up & down the stairs with a super long extension lead (!)....guess I'll have to extend the cable & have metres of wire so I'm not stuck upstairs all day....a bit depressing if no calls for a few hours (!).....
Is there anyway I can programme the phone to ring differently when its one of our 'DDI' numbers & not a sales call?0 -
asbokid....I can forward ALL calls from this phone....if i forewarded calls to say a digital 'normal' walkaround phone would it display the identity of the caller? Or....if i bought another voip phone for personal use & configured it for my own use..would it be possible to forward calls to this?
Thanks!0 -
Hi.. if either of those things are possible, that PDF end user manual, linked above, should show you how to do it!0
