Car Insurance Increased after accident

Hi, just wondered if anyone can help
I was involved in a minor accident earlier in the year, the other driver was at fault and his insurance company paid the claim.

I just got my renewal, and it seems a bit steep, (In fact, running all my details through my insurers website highlights a £60 difference when mentioning the accident)

I think this seems a bit unfair, I didn't cause the accident, had I been 30 seconds earlier or later it wouldn't have happened to me even.

What I am wondering is, can I claim my extra costs from the other guy or his insurance, after all, he was at fault, his insurance co. agreed he was at fault and paid out in full.

One of the items insurance covers is out of pocket expenses (time off work, hire cars etc) so why not my out of pocket expenses incurred as a loading on my insurance down to his incompetence?

Just a thought

Thre are disagreements about this on this forum.
Personally I think you should get it back as the law allows for you to be put back in the same posistion had the accident not happend.
I think you should claim it along with your excess and other expenses.

Have you tried to claim it off them yet?
Do you have legal cover to do that?
    What the status?
  • I agree with lisyloo, I would claim it back.
Has your claim been settled before court proceedings were issued? If you were paid in court then you cannot claim the diffrence.

It would be nice to know how it goes, keep us posted if you do it back.
