NHS Redundancy or possible Ill Health dismissal

I'm a nurse and have been employed by the same Trust for 26yrs.I have been at risk of redundancy since Dec 2009
In the meantime I have also been off sick after undergoing surgery. I was hoping that I would be redeployed into a more substantive role when I returned to work a couple of weeks ago.
I had a capability review meeting and was told that if they are unable to find me a suitable post before my next review meeting in 6 weeks time then they will start the process of redundancy. There is also a chance I could be dismissed under capability as I'm not fully recovered.
HR seemed to indicate that redundancy would be the likely outcome but I now wonder if they should be or are considering dismissing me whether there are posts available or not.
The worse possible outcome for me would be dismissal without my pension being agreed which cannot be guaranteed.
Thanks in advance for any comments /advice

Presumably you would prefer to keep working if possible? Are you keeping an eye on all the jobs going at your Trust and would you be willing to go on a different banding, e.g. 6, if it meant a less physically demanding role?
If HR are looking at 'suitable jobs' for you they may be missing something that might be right up your street (knees allowing!). It is in everyone's interest to keep staff within the Trust if there are posts available (no interviews, no expensive advertising etc, etc.).
Re. union, do you not have a local union rep in the Trust that you can approach personally? Even if they are not your union they might be able to put you in touch with someone who can help from staff side.Mortgage free plans on hold!

Thanks Oog, yes I desperately want to stay at work and have been on at risk register for nearly 18 months and in that time no jobs have come up either at my grade or one lower. Will chase the union on Tuesday as realise I will need some help with this. I think whilst the Trust always tries to retain people at the moment they have an agenda to lose a number of people to meet savings targets. Sadly the situation could be completely different within a few months but it will probably be too late for me.0
