If they like sausages then what about a casserole or toad in the hole. You could make that in separate cake tins and then put all the veg and gravy in the Yorks pud. Or a lasagne? Simple but effective for a start.

Two currys (one slightly less spicy) with rice should cater for everyone, and you should have change from £5.

Chicken breasts wrapped in bacon and served with salad and new pots.
BBQ Ribs are on offer in tesco at the moment 2 for £5,would work out pricey if they like large portions, and want a full ack each
Roast dinner is cheap and easy to to.
    Pasta.
Savoury mine with chorizo chopped in - basically mince, onions, tomatos, kidney beans chilli and chorizo served with rice.
    gammon and chips
Sausages in onion gravy and mash - get some nice sausages like tesco finest pork and leek - usually on offer 2 for a £5 - gives 12 sausages
    Shepards Pie
    Lasagne
    Chilli
    Spag bol

A small buffet as you suggested , but these tend to work out expensive and can be hard work.

Loads of things you could cook for the £15.
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.

I love that idea. It's easy to do and to cater to any taste - and you can make it as fancy or not as you like. But it also takes the pressure off the next person - if they were worrying about having to do something really fancy. It would be fab if teamed up with some games and stuff too - like a little party. I'm going to do that the next time someone comes round. Thanks!

I think I'd go for a veggie lasagne, served with baked potatoes/garlic bread and a green salad.

How about taking some of the pressure off and agreeing with your friends that the host provides the main course and the visitors bring a dessert with them? That way the costs are always split, so is the pressure, the washing up and both families have something familiar.:rotfl:

If you are going to do this on a regular basis then check out approved foods website, they have loads of indian ingrediants at the moment, tandoori paste, naan breads, naan bread mix etc.

I would look at butternut squash soup, approx £1.50 -£2,(butternut squash, 2-3 potatoes, chicken stock and garlic clove, and onion) Gammon, roast tatties cauli cheese and carrots approx £7, and then meringue nests, strawberries and cream, which would come in at around £3.50 making the total meal around £12.50.
Any soup leftover can be used the next day, same with the main course leftovers too.
