Hi
My daughter is a full time student and is about to come home for the summer holidays from Uni. I am on housing benefit and Tax Benefit. My rent and Council Tax are paid. I have recieved a letter today telling me that as my daughter is coming home my housing benefit is being suspended. Could someone please tell me if my daughter will have to pay towards the rent and council tax even tho she does not have a job and is only home for 4 months from Uni. Otherwise, she will have to go and stay else where but really she has no where else to go.
She will not have any money coming in and there is not much in the way of part time work here. What would I need to send to the council to outline that she is not recieveing an income so therefore cannot contribute and cannot clain any benefits as she is a full time student.
Thanks in advance.

How does she pay her way at Uni? does she not get grants or loans to tide her over0

She has a council grant , has worked part time, and led a very sparce life without taking out a much of a loan, but as I am in IB just wanted to know if as a full time student she is excempt from paying Council Tax and any rent to the landlord as she is a student with no current job, hopefully living with a parent who has HB and council Benefit.
I have read sections from The DWP website and other websites but they are confusing me.

I *think* (from memory) that there are no deductions applied from HB or CTB for full time students. Do the HB know she's a full time student?0 -
There would be a deduction for your daughter over the summer break if she were in remunerative work (ie 16+ hours per week). The deduction would be for HB only, not CTB.
As she has no plans to work, just advise the council that she is still a full time student, is returning to uni in September to finish her course and will not be working over the summer.0 -
Yes the Council that runs the HB knows that she is a FullTime Student as they were the ones that approved the grant for her accomodation whilst at Uni.
So this is why I am getting confused, before she was awarded the grant she had to get a letter from the Uni and sent it as proof that she was a Full Time Student and that she would be living at halls for the grant.
She is still a full time student as she has another 2 years but has to come home for the summer so I am not sure what we can send to them as proof until she goes back.

Thank you for your advice, she hopes to work part time some 12 hours a week until she goes back for a local firm, if she works less than 16 hours does that mean that the HB and Council Tax will not be deducted as it would for hours over 16.
Also I believe that my daughter does not want to share a house next year at Uni but commute from home, if she is here 7 days a week and not working part time, would I still get full HB and Council Tax as she would not have so much of a grant, or if she worked part time under 16 hours per week , lived at home was still a full time student would the HB and Council Tax still be the same rate/.
Many Thanks0 -
The university will issue a letter stating she is a full time student. The council need to see this and retain a copy for their records.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4

Provide the council her student certificate from the university, and a letter stating that she will be working for 12 hours per week whilst she is home. As the work is under 16 hours it is not 'remunerative' and there will be no deduction.
If she came home to live, there would be no deductions during term time whilst she is still a full time student whatever her working situation. However, the LA will consider making a deduction during the summer break if she does work for more than 16 hours then. This would only apply to Housing Benefit. There would be no council tax deduction.0 -

If she took out her full student funding she would be able to py her way at home without having to sponge off a parent on benefits.0
