missed intrest free date by 3 days but!!

hi all i brought a laptop through dell a year ago and i got it on intrest free for a year, now its the third laptop ive had of dell and ive always paid it off towards the end (when i received a letter telling me my date for intrest free was due and if it wasnt paid in full by then i would have 12 monthly payemnets of £90 or so. example

i just happend to log onto creation finance and i paid £1500 of the laptop which left 500 left to pay by 1/6/11 or so i thought i logged on to day and its now at 1000, so i rang them and they told me my date was 25/5/11 which is is the written agreement but on main page where you pay the agreement start date is blank..

so technically its my fault by 3 days but when i used dell the last 3 times thier finance companies informed be my term was up and if i didnt make full payement by the date the i will be paying £90 a month and half to pay £300 for example.

i thought that they were menat to inform you of this but i havent heard nothing of them.

also my dad informed me that credit will be passed to dell upon my receipt of the laptop which was two weeks after the agreement so surely my agreement should start then.

thanks for any help or tough love in thats the case ...my first post as well so hello all :)

I don't believe it is normal practice to inform you at all when the payment date is nearing, that is exactly how these companies make their money, by relying on people to go past the date.

I imagine the credit period should commence on the date of purchase but you also need to allow time for the payment to clear at the finance company to stop the interest charges being applied. So, unfortunately, even if you had paid today it was probably already too late to clear for June 1, bearing in mind the Bank Holiday.

Read through your paperwork carefully as, once you miss the cut-off date, the interest charges will probably date right back to the date of purchase.

Welcome to the forums, sorry it is probably bad news!

Looks like chalkie is right I'm afraid.

Friend of mine missed by 1 day and she ended up having to pay the interest right from the day of purchase.

Sorry, you could try contacting them and pleading, but dont hold your breath

Not a hope in hell of getting away with it with a company like Creation.

    Kenc,

Have to agree with all the other posters I'm afraid, especially if you have some paperwork that says 25th May.

As McKneff says, you could try ringng and pleading/arguing that it should have been 1 year from when you received the goods and not one year from when you ordered them, and cite that missing start date.

    Good luck

As with all the others, you will be lucky to get them to agree. It is never the day goods are delivered always the day finance was applied for or accepted.

Even making a payment on the day, can be classed as being late, because they insist the money should be in their account cleared.

You could ask for a settlement figure and see if they will give you some money off, but you could still find you are paying a lot more than if it was paid before the interest payments kicked in.
