Please help!! Returning items sent in error?

Options
Hi everyone, I hope that this is the right place to ask this!

One of my friends ordered some clothes from a DP's and they sent her order along with something from Evans, which they clearly sent by mistake.

She is considering taking the item (which is quite highly priced) back to the shop to try and get a cash refund. I have told her I am not happy with this, as it is dishonest and she should just return it to them, but she says it has been too long since it was delivered. It is just an excuse imo!

Anyway, my question is will they know if they scan it at the shop if she tries to return it will it show up that the item was lost/missing???

I know she is going to try it regardless of what I say and I don't want her getting in any trouble!!

Thanks!

Scruples.... i think the pendulum on this will swing both ways.....will she or wont she....
:confused:I have nothing better to do!!!!
  • Take off the tags, take it back straight after xmas and tell them unwanted gift hence no receipt or tags. Might get a voucher useable at DP - zero risk.

Scruples? I'll get some of those when the government has some spare to give away.

Well this site is about money-saving not theft!

Personally I couldn't do anything that dishonest. I would ring them tell them they made a mistake. Inform them that they must collect it from you at a convienient time for you, if they don't then after 6 months it becomes yours.

That would be a great idea, but the only problem is that she is a size 12 and the item they sent her in error is a size 22... I think it would be kind of obvious that it is not hers! :rotfl:

You have written as if it is me, and I am trying to do something dishonest!!! Please re-read my original post....

Edit: Just to point out, I am trying to deter her from doing this!

I was just saying thats what I would do in that situation. I know it would be tempting at this time of year when moneys tight, but I just couldn't do it. I realise its not you :)

I really doubt this, the computers are not that sophisticated.

  • Alot of shops now wont take anything back unless you have receipt, i tried to return something to woolworths an had lost receipt, even though it had woolworths stickers all over it they said they would not accept unless i had receipt, i explained i had no receipt as it was lost and they said unless i paid on a card and they could check the system for that day then i could not return it for refund or gift vouchers

I've taken jeans back for my sister before, and she's a size 8 and I'm not. I'm not saying it's right, but it is possible

  • at best she will only get an exchange and if it has been a while then it will probably be reduced. if it is reallytoo late to send back then perhaps she could try ebay.
