the household income for EMA purposes includes only earnings from employment and self employment.

I dont think it has actually been stopped yet as my Daughter receives it at the minute.

Apply for it anyway .

it HAS stopped in england. students will get it until they finish college this summer. it's being replaced with something else for a very short time. this will also stop when the younger ones have to stay in secondary education until they're 18. hth.

Does anyone know anything about the new scheme that is meant to be in place?

My daughter is 16 and starting college full time in September. But we can't apply for EMA because it has been stopped. On the EMA website it says it has been replaced by bursaries from the college. Does anyone know how much this would be? and do they actually exist?

I am a single parent on a low income so the EMA would have been handy for my daughter to go towards bus fares etc.

The replacement "scheme" offers assistance to young people where the family are on income support so many low income families are excluded altogether - dreadful shame it appears to assume low income families can support their young adult children whilst full time students whilst those on income support and quite often with all the associated add on benefits this entitles the household to, cannot!

The Direct Gov website states that if you are in receipt of income support you will receive a bursary of £1200. Is that if the young person is on Income support or the parent?

Young people in vulnerable groups — young people in care, care leavers and young people in receipt of income support (typically, young people living independently of their parents, young people whose parents have died, some teenage parents) will receive a bursary of at least £1,200, administered by schools, colleges and training providers.

Not an unrealistic assumption given that such families receive substantial financial support in the form of CB and CTC in this situation. Perhaps they also assume that this money is actually spent in the way in which it's intended?
