Letter from MIB and CCM wanting 2.5k

Hi there hope this is the right place to post this, wondering if anyone can offer some advice before I go to a solicitor.
Basically my partner received a letter today from the MIB and close credit management demanding payment of 2.5k for a accident she had nearly 5 years ago.
She made a stupid mistake and drove her mothers car when she was younger she had no insurance and only had a provisional license.
She didnt injure anyone (thank god) only causing damage to the motorway metal center divider.
Then out of the blue we get this letter today, were getting married in september and dont have that kind of money. God knows how much interest CCM have added on ?
Weve had no contact from the MIB or anyone prior to this date or who the claimant is ?
Just looking for advice on what our next steps should be ?
Thanks

    Hi thanks for the replys
Unfortunatly the car wasnt insured by her mother either as she had recently purchased another vehicle.
Wrapping on the knuckles ? I expected it to be honest, but no ones perfect everyone makes mistakes

seeing as she cannot emmigrate i would try and mitgate payment to claimants
maybe a free 1/2 hour with an uptown solicitor who deals in property/car claims would be a good call too
good luck and hide the keys to your porsche;)

She caused the damage and the MIB paid out as she had no insurance to cover it.

They are entitled to pursue her for the money as they are now doing.

As advised, get some advice, but be prepared to tone down the wedding costs!

I suspect they can claim up to 6 years. Yes we all make mistakes not all of us drive a car without insurance, but many of us pay for those who flout the law in our policies

    By all means get advice
