Travel insurance while still abroad??

Hello
I've been away from the UK for over 12 months and my travel insurance has expired. I've been looking at new providers, but see that they all seem to want me to be in the UK and obtain at least an open ticket to leave the UK, whereupon the insurance will commence.
I don't have the benefit of worldwide insurance through any credit cards / accounts etc. Can anyone advise me how to get travel insurance while not being in the UK? I do have a valid UK address and am a British citizen, but don't intend on returning for the next 12 months.
Any advice much appreciated!

Thanks Bob! Just to let you know, that you're right, it's not cheap! My quoted premium, for worldwide cover for 12 months,Level 2 sports and including additional cover for my ipod touch 3 and digi camera, is just over GBP 600.
The cover is comprehensive though and does indeed cover me without me having to be in the UK. Seeing as how I was involved in a very serious accident 3 years ago, it's worth every penny!0 -
I've also just found worldwideinsure, which is much cheaper!0

But don't they say?
Already travelling? Need cover?
Overseas with no insurance? If your total trip is less than 12 months, you can still purchase cover - click here:0 -
Not necessarily Bob. In the small print, some still want you to at least return to the UK and by a specified date, which I do not have. I have also been travelling for more than 12 months and intend to continue traveling for more than 12 months. Many insurers advertising for insurance whilst traveling, actually do not and others are advertising their option to RENEW whilst still traveling...but only if you have taken insurance out with them initially and whilst in the UK, with the usual required departure date.
After much research and reading of small and fine print, these 2 are the only 2 that I can find that suit my circumstances. I welcome any other suggestions though! I hope this is of some help to others as well.
