I have just been through this. My tips:
Attack the washing, either have it washed/put it somewhere.
Then attack one room at a time until it is done. I think this way you can see you are at least making some progress. Even start on one side of the room if that helps. Then when you are finished hoover and you are done with that room! Move onto the next. Also helps to have some music on lol.
Do go through junk like papers and sort out what is just taking space. Check boxes that have sat around in cupboards for months and never been touched - most of that stuff can go!
See if there are any of the kids toys that are not used much anymore or maybe ebay some? Just gets rid of some of that clutter unless you find boxes to put them in.
Good luck

Due to circumstances this half term we've been unable to devote a day to doing something nice as a family. So today we pulled out the stops, got as much done as possible with the view to tomorrow being just for us 4. Then i saw the weather forecast - Rain!
Typical as its been so nice all week and we've not been able to enjoy it and the one day we plan to spend together its bad weather. We were thinking a nice walk along seafront, kids on bikes or scooters/picnic and throwing stones in the sea, or something outdoors at least.
Once we found out it was going to rain we dashed out into the field with the kite before bedtime, so at least we managed that.
Don't really want to spend all day in with two lively young kids as it doesn't take much for our DS to push our buttons at the moment - "another phase!". So i'm thinking a soft play (not very imaginative), or a walk and puddle jumping (but that doesn't take all day). use our last credit at Blockbuster for a family film (hubbie and i were saving that for a night when nowt on the tv, but desperate measures...).
Are we missing the obvious or is there some brilliant family rainy day activity we haven't thought of. Preferably :money:
Thanks for reading.
PS i've already promised the children pancakes for breakfast as its a treat they love but i dont get time during the week and cereal and toast is quicker.0 -
ooops i'm so sorry i thought i was starting a new thread - how silly.
my apologies for highjacking. Good luck with your house and increasing family OP.0 -
If you can, try to get to Ikea. They have fab storage ideas, and big units that you can buy coloured plastic boxes for which look nice in kids rooms.
Good idea about doing a daily wash - should really help to keep on top of things.
When we do a big clean (about once every 2 months) we spend an hour with a notepad. We go into every single room and write absolutely everything that needs doing in that room. We then clean a room at a time, ticking off the sheet as we go. When I do my weekly clean, I start upstairs but doing a massive clean I start downstairs as there's always lots of things to be taken up (rather than things from upstairs that need going down).
I too am pregnant and have packed away all of my clothes I won't fit in for a while. Also, winter clothes, duvets, blankets, dressing downs etc go into vacuum bags (ABSOLUTE GODSEND) for the summer. I've been given a chest of draws which I'm storing baby stuff in and will get a shelving unit to keep wicker baskets full of baby stuff in too.
If your beds allow, underbed boxes are useful too.
I try and keep a list of the big jobs and when I last did them to keep on top of it. Things like cleaning and defrosting the fridge/freezer, emptying and cleaning out kitchen cupboards, pulling all furniture out to hoover underneath/behind etc. I try and do these things every 3-6 months depending on need.
A big winner is to take a couple of hours with each child in their room and put all unwanted clothes, toys, books etc in boxes. Then take them all to a car boot and let the kids have either all or a % of what their stuff made. It really encourages them to get rid of stuff they really don't need/want. A car boot won't be hard on your pregnant body either as you're just staying at your stall rather than walking around.
Good luck x0 -
Underbed storage is good if you haven't got any, it sounds more of a storage problem. Before putting anything away, have a de clutter, have three bags, one for rubbish, one for re - cycling and one for charity, and be ruthless.!! Do one room at a time, and keep stopping for a break so you keep motivated.!0
