Brand new 3 piece suite that smells

Wondering if anyone can offer any advice please. Mum and Dad had delivered yesterday a new suite from Stokers (2 chairs and a seatee), Mum has rung me this morning in floods of tears saying it smells of damp and the smell is now all over their bungalow.

I`m just going round to see them, but wondered if anyone can advise them what they should do and what rights they have if any!

Many thanks.

I have just been round and the smell seems to be coming from the actual base units of the seatee and chairs, all the cushions are fine.
Its a funny kind strange damp smell.

    Any ideas? thanks

My new bed smelled badly of damp and I was really upset the first night I slept in it as it cost £900. But after a couple of days the smell had gone.

Thanks, glad the smell went. I wondered if it was something to do with the storage and wrapping it in plastic! it cost them £3000+ and is a G Plan so a well known make.

withabix, its a thickish material bit like a brocade (not sure how you spell it) the base bit when you lift the cushions seems to be nylon material. I have had my nose stuck in the cushions and they seem find, its when you take the cushions off you smell it.

The smell will just be from the man-made materials in the furniture (foam etc).

The smell will reduce after a couple of days.

If the furniture has polyurethane foam in it (the same chemicals as memory foam), the smell will take a couple of weeks to go.

Your mum isn't used to the smell, which is why she is upset.

Thanks, they are in their 70`s and were really looking forward to getting this new suite, of course this has spoilt it a little. Dad has mentioned it to Stokers so they are aware of it but their Customer Serive Dept doesn`t work Saturdays..so by tuesday when they are back it it will
either have started to go or still be as it is today.
