I doubt it due to the stuff you're presumed to be carrying around in the back of it.

That's what I thought at first but in a couple of car ad's I've seen recently they point out "classed as a commercial vehicle so cheaper to insure!"

    ???

Can't you put the details into a comparison site and have a look what it turns up? :)

Corsavans aren't cheaper to insure than Corsas, but a Range Rover Commercial might be cheaper to insure than a Range Rover (I don't know if they're available in the UK, certainly are in Ireland)

Many moons ago, before the changes in the law that made injury claims more common, vans were considerably cheaper to insure than their equivalent car versions. Their used to be less theft and damage claims (The logic being a van driver did not mind driving a beaten up damaged van so did not claim for small damage).

They tend to be more expensive than their car equivalents now days, probably due to more claims (Predominantly Injury) as they tend to cover larger mileages than car drivers so are more exposed to accidents.

You also get a lot of van break ins as tool theft is fairly common (The tools are not normally covered)

Could that also be because a van might be a better target for "crash for cash" claims since there's usually corporate insurance behind it?

I think it's always asumed that a comercial will be used for comercial purposes at least at some times, be that carrying tools working on building sites etc, etc, so no, as a rule it isn't cheaper, usually the opposite;)
I know a few who have vans purely to carry around fishing gear without it being on view and they've certainly found this.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

In general vans are much dearer to insure, the assumption being they have goods in them and that they are being used, i.e., not parked up at the office 8 hours a day. A lot of people have had their fingers burnt buying car derived vans like Clios and Corsas, assuming that as they are cheap to buy (they are knackered after 3 years hard use) they will be cheap to run.

Doesn't work like that. In haulage, you have to have the goods insured separately on a GIT insurance policy.
