Is this the Trattoria Verdi stuff? Quite sly that really

I think it's a little unfair to call that 'sly'.

Tesco do not manufacture products themselves. The buy them in from others. Some have known brands, some are labelled as Tesco own brand and in some cases the manufacturer sets up a brand specifically for Tesco. (In the same way that M&S has the 'St Michaels' brand even though they get others to do the manufacturing).

This has been going on for many decades and is not normally considered underhand.
There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.

I don't think it's unfair, in the sense that brand creation is marketing, which itself is a packaging of the truth for a specific purpose. Calling something sly isn't necessarily a derogatory thing ... for example I used to go out with a girl called Sly.
If you think of it as 'us' verses 'them', then it's probably your side that are the villains.

Alas, no, she was less grubby.

Just had the experience of their 'chosen by you brand'. We are very happy they offer money back as tomorrow their 'traditional Tiramasu - Chosen by you' will be on its way back.

Making it in Italy does not make it traditional - very soggy base, mascarponi 'mousse' topping (very traditional - it's like squirty cream!).

All Asda have shown is it's been chosen by people who have no idea what a tiramasu is or should be like and that you can't make a "traditional" tiramasu for an ingredient cost of about 60p.

    Yup.

Tesco have a different strategy. They go around inventing own brands that you don't realise are own brands.

Like rebranding their "value" range as "market value"? :rotfl:

Traditional; that's another word made meaningless when used to describe a product.

Although many years ago, when I worked in menswear, I did have a customer ask for traditional trousers (no idea what he meant). So perhaps there are some members of the public who do use phrases without understanding them.

    We covered that at uni.

There's a perception that Tesco Value is cheap and nasty, and it also doesn't give a good impression if you have people round and you put Tesco Value sauce on the table.

The discounter brands are priced between Tesco Value and Tesco normal brand, but have brand names on. They are perceived as being better quality than Tesco branded stuff but cost less. A bottle of Oak Lane sauce gives a better impression on the table than the Value sauce.

We came to the conclusion it was quite a good bit of marketing.
Here I go again on my own....

Remember Matsui, Saisho, etc? Just sub-brands of DSG. Nothing new under the sun.
