buying an internet domain

I want to buy a domain name, it's going to be a site for my daughter to record her growing up years, but I've no clue who/where to buy from. I've only used the free MSN group, and freewebs before now, but I want a proper domain name and not something ".freewebs.com", etc. I've been maintaining the free sites since she was born and she's nearly 3 so there will be so much stuff to transfer over, I thought I'd better look into it before she gets much older ^^
Does anyone know anything about buying them?
Thanks in advance

Check out 1and1 internet.
You can buy a .co.uk domain name for £4.64 inc VAT (lasts two years). Go via quidco for cashback too.

Having bought your domain name, you need somewhere to host your website. The first place to look is your own ISP. Many offer free webspace so you can use that. Just 'point' your new domain name to your website address. If you don't get free webspace from your ISP, checkout the people who sold you the domain name. They usually offer web hosting as well (for a fee).0 -

Be warned, 123reg customer support is dreadful. Emails go ignored for ever (it seems) and the only phone number is a 50p a minute premium number. You have to use this for everything. They are part of Pipex who also refuse to help with any 123reg problems, and just refer you to the 50p a minute number.

I agree about the CS at this company, but if you only use them to buy your domain name you shouldn't have any problems. I've bought loads of domains from them and never had a problem. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?
