Im in a right state right now... ><
Lets start from the beginning:
Im a student at college studying accounting one day per week (switched from previously 3 days). Last year I finished sixth form early and found work in London as an Electrical Labourer. I was paying ~£49 p/week for travel from zone 5-1, this was a huge dent to my income.
I came across a Freedom Pass one day, and in my uneasy situation decided to try it out. I was caught. I was promised if I complied and gave the right details I would be let off with nothing but a slap on the wrist. I told the woman that I found the card in the morning, and was caught by her; it was pure curiousty and I was going to return it. I work and pay for a weekly travelcard.
A month passes and a I get a letter from TfL, asking why I was caught and what I had to say about myself. They said nothing about any fines or charges, so I spilled the beans in a similar matter as above. Over a month passes, and I recieve a fat A4 letter, court summons. I was being fined £204. I said I couldnt pay this fee, So I had to go to means hearing. I turned up and my name wasnt there. The fines officer prolonged my due by date for 2 months (March) at which point I stil did not manage to gather the funds due to my poor money management. I managed to settle for £50 a month.
2 weeks ago, with the sudden burst of bank holidays, and a day for college mid week, I got paid only 40 hours' worth for 2 weeks. after paying the bills etc the £50 Magistrates charge completely slipped my mind. Last week I recieved a letter from Philips Bailiffs - Notice of Distress warrant. I was being chased for £189, despite paying ~ £100 off the fine already. I called them up and they kept persisting I pay immediately otherwise the baillifs will come to my place of residence, despite giving a 7 day notice (note: there was no date on the Distress Warrant!)
Given that this was after a poor pay day, I had little to no finances.
I went to WONGA and took out a loan for ~£300+ (£357 repayment) which I would pay off Tomorrow. I called up the Phillips people, and paid by card as soon as the money from wonga came through. Everything was settled - or so I thought.
I check my balance today (payday) and Im ~£200 short. I print a statement and realise I that Phillips have taken out a second, un-arranged payment of £190. This leaves me short to pay back Wonga - which will incurr in fines. I couldnt even do an immediate repayment, as the funds were out of my account before I checked.
Ive been put through a great ordeal at home, and recieve lectures from my parents; everything was planned out, yet went wrong so quickly.
What must I do to reclaim the £190, and is there any reimbursement or anything that I would be entitled to? Ive been pulling my hair out since I printed the statement, and this could possibly put me into more debt If I make the adequete deposit for the Wonga repayment too late. I plan to be at the bank at 8am tomorrow morning, but I dont know if wonga takes the money out earlier.
Please please please please help! _pale_

Wonga have their systems set to take the money at 00:01 on the day of repayment.
Bearing in mind its Saturday tomorrow turning up at 8am wont have much an effect as they will be shut.
This extra payment wont be sorted till Monday when you phone them up and query.
Wonga will try first to take 100% balance, if it fails they then try for 75% of the balance, as its best to get 3/4 and then chase the other 1/4. But they will add fees and interest and it will spiral out of control. By not extending the loan you have no option but to close down your account as now they have your bank details they will leave you high and dry.
My advice is to go to the cash machine now and draw out what you can. Then close your account (yes its tough but there is no other way) then come to an agreement with Wonga to pay back after opening up a new account but dont give them the details.0 -

I have the money I need to pay back in my hand. Im only £110 short.
I thought there was only a £20 Payment if there are inadequete funds in the account?
Closing the Bank account? Doesnt that require a letter, and that will take time? Seems like by closing the account im just welcoming more trouble upon my doorstep
If the charges will go up, then there wont be nothing to save me from them, even if my account IS closed? Or am I missing something?
Please help! there nearest cashpoint is 30 minutes away - if what you are sayign is true then I need to act fast
What about the Phillips situation? what can I do to resolve the matter with them taking more money from me than agreed? Just a call should suffice?0 -
Should I extend the loan for one day then??? make it payable on sunday?.0

If you do have the funds to pay the loan off then hold fire.
There is no way you can pay the money into the account tomorrow in time.
Best time to see what has happened is Tuesday when banks reopen after bank holiday weekend. Then you will see if Wonga has tried the payment/part payment. at least if you do have the cash then you can pay them off pretty quickly0 -

so what you're saying is its better to do nothing then opt for a day extension to the loan?0 -
If its due out tomorrow then its impossible to extend it at such at late stage0

The joys of technology!!!
When you are at the bank tomorrow make sure the funds are paid in over the counter and confirm with the cashier that they will be credited straight away. Banks differ - eg Natwest credit there and then on a Saturday whereas HSBC will take the money but wont show on your account till the next working day.0 -

thanks for your contributions MC.
Will still keep this thread open in regard to the Phillips Bailiff query.
Seems like they f*cked me over.

Sorry to be harsh here, but it doesn't sound like accounting is for you if you are so bad with money. And you'd save some money too if you drop the course.0
