There are two age groups to enter: 5-8 years and 9-12 years. Imagine that you are writing a postcard to a friend or relative from the most amazing place you have been. Or invent a place. Be sure to tell us everything that is special about it and see how well you can conjure it up in a few well-chosen words. You don't have to restrict yourself to sending in your entry on a postcard but the maximum number of words we're after is 300 for the 5-8 age group and 500 for the 9-12s.
Open to entrants worldwide aged 5-12 years, excluding employees of the Promoter, Penguin Books, Cedar Communications and their immediate families, their agents or anyone professionally associated with this promotion. Entries from those age 13 or under must be accompanied by written permission from a parent/guardian or with their written consent.
2. This promotion is void where this promotion is prohibited.
3. The prize is four BA return World Traveller flights from London Heathrow to New York, four nights B&B in the Hotel Plaza Athenee in New York for four people sharing two connected rooms.
4. To enter: write a postcard to a friend or relative from the most amazing place you have been - or you can use your imagination and invent your own destination. The maximum word limit for 5-8s is 300 and 500 for 9-12s.
5. Only one entry per person is allowed. No entrant may win more than one prize.
6. All correctly completed entries will be forwarded to a judging panel made up of Quentin Blake, Michael Rosen, Lauren Child and Kerry Smith, editor of High Life magazine. The winner will be the entry that in the opinion of the judges, demonstrates the most imaginative journey.
7. The winner of each age category will have their story illustrated by Quentin Blake, before a final winner is chosen to go on a Giant Roald Dahl Day in New York City, including a family helicopter trip over Manhattan (please note there may be age restrictions if the family's second child is a baby/toddler), a trip to the top of the Empire State Building, a trip to Toys R Us in Times Square to take a ride on the giant ferris wheel and spend $200 of vouchers, an opportunity to meet Lucy Dahl, Roald Dahl's daughter, for tea at New York's Plaza Hotel, a carriage ride in Central Park, finishing with a family outing to a top Broadway show (show tbc). The three runners-up from each group will receive a set of Roald Dahl's hardback fiction library, jointly published by Puffin Books and Random House Children's Books (thirteen titles in total) PLUS a family pass for free admission for a year to the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre in Great Missenden.
8. All travellers must have a passport with at least 6 months validity from the day they return to the UK after the holiday prize.
9. The prize does not include flights to the UK, airport transfers, tourist visas, travel insurance, (mandatory) passports, meals (unless otherwise stated), any applicable taxes not included in the price of the ticket or any other costs of a personal nature not stated (including spending money) all of which will be the sole responsibility of the winner and their guest.
