pc not shutting down

hi...when shutting down my pc all i get is "windows is shutting down""...it dosnt !
please can someone tell me what to do ?

Another thing that can cause this, in my experience, are things like newly installed USB drivers (usually printers). Done any lately? If so try a previous restore point.
Also, if you haven't got auto update enabled, have a look on the xp update site and see if you're up to date.
This can also be caused by hardware problems, specifically over-heating. When was the last time you blew the dust out of your machine?

I had the same problem, my computer wouldn't switch off either even after trying out all the suggestions I could find on the Internet.
Microsoft have just recently brought out a cure for the problem which can be found here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=1B286E6D-8912-4E18-B570-42470E2F3582&displaylang=en
Download and install the programme, it worked for me, my computer switches off normally now.0
