Cheaper laundry?

I currently use a empty 1.5ltr bottle of fabric conditioner, in that i add a litre of value shampoo, a scoop of value bio washing powder and topped up to the brim with water and drop in 6 drops of lavender oil. Give it a good shake and this lasts me about 2 weeks.
So far this has been really effective and I dont need to add any fabric conditioner as all my laundry seems to be softer now especially the towels.

The cheapest must be "Laundry Gloop". From a bar of Fairy household soap, washing soda and some borax I made ten litres of laundry detergent for about a pound. Instead of fabric conditioner I use a couple of tablespoons of vinegar.0

Morrisons deal this week: Persil 50 washes box of powder. Usually £12.99, only £5 at the moment

borax isnt available any more but something called "borax substitute" is. You can get it from chemists or some independent supermarkets.
Laondry gloop is ace. Polejunkie, your own homemade washing soap sounds like a good product too, thankyou for sharing. Quick and easy to make , I'll give it a trial. I echo vinegar for fabric conditioner. it works and helps keep the washing machine lime scale free for those of us who live in hard water areas.0 -
Another fan of Sainsbury's basics shampoo for laundry here .
It's described as low-lather on the bottle so no problems in the machine and at 22p per litre bottle, a bargain. It's a great MS idea and very effective for most of my wash-loads and as you say, can be combined with a bit of cheapo bio powder for more heavily soiled loads. :T0 -

BitterAndTwisted - do you mean white vinegar? and just two tablespoons a wash do you add at start of wash program or halfway thru? do the cloths smell of vinegar?0 -
Put vinegar in the fabric conditioner compartment. I normally use 4 tablespoons of white vinegar myself. No vinegar smell at all. I have also used brown vinegar with good results too.0
