What benefits can I get

My Daughter is married with 3 children under 9, live in rented housing association property and her husband has recently been diagnosed with Terminal Cancer and is unable to work. My Daughter works 16 hours per week and gets child Tax credits and she is applying for working Tax credits. Are there any other credits or income support they can qualify for?

the husband maybe able to get employment support allowance plus dla paid at the high care component also the daughter may get carers allowance also housing and council tax benefit depending on savings income

Special rules - if you are terminally ill
If you have a progressive disease and are not reasonably expected to live for more than six months, you can get DLA more quickly. You can get the highest rate of the care component whatever your care needs are. And you can get the care component and (if you meet the conditions) the mobility component, without waiting three months.
You can make a claim for someone under the special rules without them knowing or without their permission. If they satisfy the relevant conditions, they will get a letter saying that they have been awarded Disability Living Allowance. Special rules will not be mentioned in the letter.
To claim under these special rules you will need to:
complete a Disability Living Allowance claim form
get a separate completed form DS1500 from your doctor, specialist or consultant to send with it

Thank you for all your advice and concern. When he was diagnosed 8 weeks ago, they said he could be gone within 6 months, but luckily he is responding to treatment well, but will have to have stem cell treatment in september, which instead of having 3-4 years, could be 5-10 years, but they just don't know.
On this basis I suppose he won't get the DLA, but will look into the carer and other components. Thanks again for your help

you cant get carers allowance without getting dla paid at the middle or high care component rates even if he wont qualify for the special rules it is still worth putting in a claim for dla if he has care or mobility or both needs

Do not take it on yourself that he wont get DLA still apply for it and let them decide, I made that big mistake when I had an SAH STROKE in April 1991 and lost 20 yrs worth of DLA.

I applied in 2009 and still qualified for middle rate care.

The DLA will be judged on his needs. It just doesn't sound as if he'd get it immediately under the special rules.

Ask the MacMillan nurses for help in filling in the forms.
