i want to have my mini mac in front room connected to hd tv with a regular hdmi cable. and then use a monitor in another room with bluetooth k.board and mouse. the apple shop said best way to connect would be a long vga lead, and if sound needed to run an audio cable.
im not to hot with a soldering iron and dont want to cut a 3" hole to get the vga end through, can i cut the cable and insert a middle to extend it to say 20mt.

Yes you can cut the cable, pass it through a smaller hole and reconnect somewhere but unless you are good with a soldering iron you could make a mess ad ruin the integrity of the signal.
Rather than drill a large hole, how about cut a slice out of the coving, this can then be replaced and just look like a join later.0 -
One point that everyone is missed is at those lengths you're going to need cables with each individual core screened or you're going to end up with horrific crosstalk and ghosting images.
To be honest, 66ft is kind of expecting miracles unless you're using a booster box.0 -

Or have you thought of something like this:

Furthermore affordable wireless monitors will be on the market soon0 -

With that length of cable, it would be a surprise if it worked at all.
There are ethernet-based "kvm extenders" -- http://shop.ebay.co.uk/i.html?_trkparms=65%253A12%257C66%253A2%257C39%253A1%257C72%253A4908&rt=nc&_nkw=kvm+extender&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_sop=15&_sc=1
If you are going to be stringing some cat5 ethernet cable between the two rooms, it's probably better to get a thin client box for the 'other room'. £100 would buy quite a nice box.
You could then run a "vnc" server on the mac or "export the X display" on the mac to the thin client.

Only if you like looking at 3 of everything and screwed up colours.
You need a seriously high quality cable to stand a fighting chance and TBH I doubt that is going to work well. Any image problems you have put down to the cable length.0
