Bank accounts for DD11 and DS 15 - any ideas/recommends?

I'd like to open my DD11 and DS15 an account each, into which I can pay their pocket money. DS15 will need one next year anyway for receipt of his EMA as he is hoping to go to sixth form or college so I'd like to sort them both out now if its possible.

They both have savings accounts which grandparents & I pay into, but I don't want them to have access to that - I'd rather they had a separate account with a cashcard so that they can withdraw their money from the ATM. I'd also like to encourage them to pay some money from their pocket money into their savings account or leave it in their new account for saving up for things like mobile phone top-ups etc.

Can anyone tell me if its possible to open this kind of account before they are 16? and if so, does anyone have any recommendations as to which bank I should use?

TIA

    Try this one.

Although unless you live in the midlands they will have to operate it by post. You might be able to find something similar closer to home though.

    Good luck.

Bank of Scotland/Halifax Expresscash account, comes with a Visa Electron debit card and online banking.

When your son is 16 he'll be able to open a Halifax Web Saver to accompany it, paying 5.00% with instant transfers between the two.

Abbey National do a Bank account for children age 11 years plus. My daughter who is 15 has one and my son who wil be 11 in January will open one then. They get a card which you can pay money in and take money out from the ATM machine. Direct debits can be paid in example paper round money etc. You can request monthly or 6 mointhly statements. There is no overdraft facility with it and transfere to adult account altomatically at 18. Most Banks/Building Societys reccommend opening an account before 18 as some young adults over 18 are having difficulty opening a bank account.
