I have £250.00 to spend on a new Laptop as my Macbook Pro died on me & my budget is now very tight. My useage is purley Web & Excel/Word basesd, DVD is a bonus. I was looking at a netbook but as I would be using it a lot the small keybaord may get on my nerves. I had my eye on a HP 620 (although I have just noticed they have gone up in price!) Need something relaiable & light that I could use as a work horse. If it last a couple of years I will be happy.

Update: Just read a few threads after writing this up and thought I would see what peoples thought about a second hand Lenovo T61? workhorse, nice size, can I upgarde easily?

The more I look at the T61 the more I get excited! definetly need a trackpad though. I like the build quailty, I could live with weight/battery life.

The bill to fix my Mac is £420 & the machine is over three years old, so opting to get a new machine.

I had an Acer before & it served me well! There is so much in market place! luckily I don't have a long spec list.

One thing I will miss is the OS X operating system. Windows do like an update!

I have just noticed! A lot of these systems are 64bit as that becuase of Windows 7?

Its because more and more are coming with 3GB or more and to be able to use it all, you need a 64bit OS. 64 bit Windows is no longer like Windows XP Pro 64 was with problems with software and drivers. There's very little noticable difference to the end user.

Yeah, they have some nice touches such as drain holes in the keyboard so if you spill a drink on it, it drains straight through - sensible limits applying of course. If you can find one with the IPS Flexview display, even better as you've got 178 degree viewing angle in all directions without loss of contrast or colour or that "photo negative" effect.
