I like the Bedfordshire villages. Not sure what it is like these days, but a few years ago Sharnbrook had an excellent reputation as a secondary school. Some lovely villages over that side and not too far from MK.0

Depends if you're looking at towns or villages. Since you have kids, then commuting to schools might be a priority
nearby towns include Leighton Buzzard, Dunstable, Luton, Towcester. I definitely wouldn't recommend Luton though
Smaller town/village within 45mins include, Bletchly, Pottersbury, Silverstone (if you don't mind noise
) Hocklife, Woburn Toddington, Totternhoe, Tring.
Then again you might want to settle within Milton Keynes itself, MK is a pretty good place, decent shopping centre, cinema, sporting activity etc, Monkston looks quite nice, avoid Fishmermead though, looks like a bit of a hole.
Anyway around MK though is within easy and relatively quick reach of the major airports, motor ways, attractions, and there's some really nice countryside in Beds, Bucks and Herts.:www: Progress Report :www:

Be aware that demand in the Milton Keynes area is likely to be higher at the moment as a LOT of Network Rail staff are moving into their new offices at the former National Hockey stadiumSignaller, author, father, carer.0

Hi Andy
Really need to know your budget and requirements as that will heavily influence where you are directed to.
I have lived around Milton Keynes since I was one year old (in fact before it was even here!!) and would agree that MK itself is a really great place to live. Sure it gets a lot of stick for the concrete cows etc but everyone I know who moved here from elsewhere absolutely loves it. It's very much an up and coming area with more and more going on.
I grew up just outside Olney (very expensive !!) and was a bit sniffy about moving to within the city boundary but it was the best move I have ever made.
So areas like Woburn, Stony Stratford, Olney are really nice towns but more expensive than within the city boundary itself. I wouldn't touch Bletchley with a bargepole - it doesn't have the cheapest house prices in Buckinghamshire for nothing !! Also as previously mentioned there are some pretty awful estates like Fishermead, Conniburrow, Netherfield so my advice would be to get some details and spend an afternoon having a drive around to see what you like.
Feel free to pm me if you want more info on anything specific.0
