One-way van hire - any tips for a good price?

I'd like to hire a van for a one-way journey (from the Darlington area to London) but having done a bit of research, it seems that most hire places charge quite a hefty supplement for one-way hire - a day's hire is something like £30-50 but doing it one-way adds another £100 or more to the cost.

Is there any way of doing this more cheaply? Any hire companies that you can recommend?

Thanks in advance for any tips or pointers!

Easier with a National company. I rented with Sixt and the cost of a Glasgow to Kent rental only added £30 on top.

Cheers - was that online or did you have to ring them up to organise this?

Just rang Sixt and they say they don't do one-way rentals for vans.

Wow! That's changed. I went online and you're right. One way is now only available to another branch in the same area.

Yeah, they say they will do it for cars but for £50 and only selected locations - the nearest to Darlington being Edinburgh!
