Hi People,
I was wondering if someone could help me out. I saw an advert through a company called "FIRST CHOICE RECRUITS" they source staff for events and different types of functions- such as hosts, people to work on trade stands, attend conferences etc....
Anyway to the point- they all sound amazing bla bla bla- BUT to sign up with them its £250 for 3 months, £400 for 6 months or £700 for a year! now, rule of thumb if it sounds great and you have to pay up front then I wouldnt go there- but im intriged if anyone else out there has worked for them? The only thing I could find on the internet about them was their own website and about 100 adverts for work in various regional newspapers.
I would be interested in finding out more about this company- I find it odd I cant find any information about them, they charge to join and without even seeing my cv they can practically guarentee work....
all information would great ;-)
Many thanks!

I'd never pay up front, it sounds like a scam to me

The general rule is that it is a criminal offence for a person carrying on an employment agency or an employment business to make any charge to a work seeker (directly or indirectly) for finding employment for him or her (Employment Agencies Act 1973 s.6(1)).
Whatever it is they are charging you for, it's not for placing you in work.
Having a quick peek at their site and terms and conditions it sounds maybe as if they also have a section on their website where individuals can advertise themselves to find work - bearing in mind they work in the entertainment/event field this is legal and appropriate as self employed people working in say, theatre or sport, can be charged for this type of service.
But this is unnecessary and illegal if you are just looking for bar/security/stewarding type workCash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.0 -
sounds very similar to the kind of work you get from Rock Steady, who my friends work for and have never taken a fee up frontDebt free 4th April 2007.

Hello there!
I have also applied for a position as event hostess with First Choice Recruits and they are now demanding the 250 pounds representation & marketing fee. They say I will have no contract and that each particular client of theirs who requests my services will pay me in cash. I don't think this is very safe, since First Choice Recruits don't seem to be responsible for other people paying me and I could not get the money.
Did you eventually work with them? If so, could you please inform me about how it went? I really need the information asap! Thank you very much in advance!
Kind regards,
Alicia0 -
Don't do it. Go to a decent hospitality agency instead.0

Hi
I have been called today in response to my application and am really tempted. If I had £400 and if they guaranteed at least 3 days per week then you could make this back in no time. However giving up a secure job for a role where the company may only use me once or twice is very worrying and therefore very risky. I would be interested to hear from anyone who works for them too but am also going to make further enquiries and will let you know. I would love to be a host so not giving up yet!

Hello, i got the SAME offer yesterday, and i find it a bit suspicious.. It sounds TOO GOOD to be true! :S Especially providing me with a driver to pick me up and drive back home.. :S
Did anyone heard of this Agency, whether is it reliable??
I really wouldn't like to put myself in serious trouble :S
thanks0 -
I stupidly signed up falling for it!
This was over a month ago and I haven't recieved any work. At the beginning the lady Natalie would say she had some things in the pipeline and she would give me a call, however I haven't heard anything and I have been calling everyday for the past week.
DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY.
I'm just thankful I only registered for 3 months!
