Renault Scenic Repairs
I've got a bit of a problem. My Renault Scenic has broken down and it appears to be the fuel pump.
1. About how much should I expect to pay for a new fuel pump (fitted)?
2. About a month ago, my wife took the car to the garage and asked for a new fuel pump. Instead, the garage hooked the car up to a diagnostic machine which told them to change the glow plugs. They charged her £300 for a new set (incl. £70 for using the stupid diagnostic machine that appears to have been to the pub at lunchtime). Do I have any redress?

If you advised them that you thought that the problem was your fuel pump and they said no it wasnt and fitted the glow plugs,i would certainly contact them and hope that they would help with this problem.
It could be argued by them that the plugs needed replacing anyway so you may need to rely on their goodwill in this matter. How did you know the pump was at fault? and why are you only having a problem now a month later, these are probably the questions the garage will ask, when trying to justify themselves. There are two sides to every story.

A mobile repairs bloke came out and told us that it was the glow plugs. I suppose he could have had it wrong. That's the trouble with car repairs - I have to take someone elses word for it all the time.
If it was down to me, I wouldn't run a car at all but it's a pain in the whatsit with a 3- and 20-month old child in the 'burbs trying to get around the place without one. It was all far easier when I lived in central London....0
