You're trying to play the 'danger card' by repeatedly mentioning how this was a serious risk, how children could have been hurt, and how lucky you were, but the glass that broke was safety class, and posed minimal threat. That's why you weren't injured. Work surfaces should be robust, so I cannot see how that could possibly have been damaged by the incident. These things happen and I'd say you should just buy a new glass.

A new door can be fitted anyone with some common sense, the guy who repaired the seal on our cooker took the seal off and it seemed easy enough to do

I have had two smeg appliances explode. The first the inner glass door on my oven exploded whilst running the pyrolitic clean for the first time and the second was the full glass hob (glass on gas) exploded whilst my wife was cooking on it. Now all five hob burner control knobs have cracked and smeg will send a engineer out but if they think its cosmetic I will be charged.
