Hi,
We are first time buyers and have got our certificate for Mortgage in principle and are using a no strings Free broker. We are attending several viewing of various properties at the moment...
We have another meeting with our Broker next week and the company he works for also has a solicitors divison. He is gently trying to sway us to use theirs, but has said there absolutely is no problem (too right there shouldn't be!) using a solicitor of our choice.
I don't have any contacts in the legal field. What do you guys think we should do? Stick with theirs or find an independent one? Is there the potential to save a lot of money or is it more to find a decent one that answers your calls!!
Starting to get familar with the process now, just need a bit of guidance!

Decent one that answers your calls, every time!
I'd go on a recommendation if possible, ask around your friends, see who was happy.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

If the price is right, there's no problems going with his recommendation. Get a few quotes from others as prices do vary. You could try one of the Internet firms. I used them for my last house move and although weren't the quickest, they were cheap.0

Dont forget try to get no sale no fee. It was invaluable when I sacked our sols after not even exchanging after 4 months.....they had no experience of complex leaseholder situations and I didnt have to pay a penny and got compensation of them for their incompetance via the law society.I love this site :beer:0 -
His lawyers may be part of the same firm, or they may be lawyers that they 'refer' to, probably getting £100 referal fee.
There is no reason not to use them so long as their fees are reasonable, the advantage being that your broker will have a relationship with them, may have online tracking and can help make sure that they give your case the attention it needs and help supply any missing information.I am a Mortgage Adviser

Girl at work was in tears today because her solicitors (recommended through her mortgage advisor) haven't even sorted out the search fees after 5 weeks, and lost mortgage offer 3 times. Was on target to complete on 3rd Jan but not looking at all likely now. Go with personal recommendations.0
