Car Warranties - are they worth it?

Buy a model that doesn't have a track-record of going bang expensively, buy at a much-reduced price and put the remainder away as a just-in-case.
Always done this and can't say I've ever been bitten. The odd car has needed exhausts etc but that's about it.0 -
I bought a 2006 reg car at the end of 2009. They offered me the Warrenty but threw it in "free" with the car, but didn't get any money off the list price.
7 months later the front wheel was making a clonking sound and they found it was an issue with the calipar and was unsafe to drive.
They phoned me back sometime later to say that the calipar weas covered but the worn brake discs and pads were not. I asked them to phone the warrenty company again and speak to their manager.
I argued that this would have been caused by the calipar issue and after leaving me car there for nearly a week they phoned me one day to say it had all been done and was ready for me.
Eventually they agreed. I was sure glad I had got that Warrenty as would have cost several hundred to get fixed.
If they are throwing it in as part of the price of the car then great, if not then push for that and see if you can get it included. If not then go somewhere else.Mortgage: [STRIKE]Jan 11 - £91830 [/STRIKE][STRIKE] Jan 12 - £89'199[/STRIKE] May 14 - £69'999 Car Loan: [STRIKE]Jan 11 - £3658 [/STRIKE] July 12 - £0!
