Extended Warranties On Kitchen Appliances?
Options

Hi I'm Buying new kitchen appliances, (Cooker, Hob, Freezer etc) which all come with a standard 2 year warranty each, but if I want to extend them to 5 years cover (extra 3 years) they want around £70 per item.
I'm sure I can extend these warranties by a third party for cheaper, does anyone have any recommendations or advice?
Thanks
Jason

Domestic and General is one company that does extended warranties. There are others but I can't recall names at the moment.
I have a Nationwide credit card which gives a year's free extended warranty on most home appliances. I think they then give you the option to extend it further after it expires but I'm not completely sure on this. I have never claimed on this service so I can't comment on claim handling.
I used to have a NatWest Advantage Gold account which gave the same benefit as the Nationwide card, organized through Domestic and General. I wouldn't recommend the Advantage Gold account because it's an expensive fee-paying account, but I did have to claim once on this policy and it was no problem at all.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

Have a look at https://www.portwood.co.uk we insure some of our household appliances with them. The do annual single items or combined groups. Prices are lower than I've seen elsewhere and it's an AXA backed policy.0

Extended warranties are a complete waste of money in my opinion.
These items should last much longer than that if they are looked after.
Accept the fact that they will break one day and when they do replace them with new by using the money that you saved from not getting the extended warranty.0 -

If an appliance is going to break down, in most cases it will either be in the first few weeks of its life (due to poor workmanship and covered by standard warranty) or otherwise when it just dies of old age (which would be well after any extended warranty expires).
Obviously there will always be a few exceptions to the rule, but generally speaking, if you NEVER buy an extended warranty for anything, you will be quids in.
If you think about it, a company offering extended warranties is only going to do so because they can make money out of it. That means they know that most appliances do not break down in the (extended) warranty period.0 -
Also important to note that what you can expect from the warranty will be different each time, and you are bound by the terms and conditions of them. So if it says you have to have 5 repairs before they will even consider a replacement, you need to decide if this is any good for you. Cheapest isn't always best with these things.
I have never bought one, and now I am working in consumer advice I never will as some of the stories I have heard have put me off for life.
Please remember that you have rights against the seller for UP TO 6 years (depending on expected lifespan of the item) and this is free, so don't think that it's warranty or nothing.Little lady arrived 13/12/110 -
