Santander faster payments problem

I do the wages for our local pre-school. We have always had an A&L Community Account (as we are a registered charity) but recently Santander got involved and its all gone downhill fast!!!!!

I do the wages through our online account via Faster Payments. Never had a problem with this with A&L. We have one employee who is a Santander account holder, but now when I put the wages payments on, hers defaults to BACs with a 3 day payment date - this weekend being a bank hol, she will not get paid until 1.6.11, when everyone else with non Santander accounts will have funds transferred tomorrow!

I have spoken to both the bank and their online helpdesk and received various excuses and longwinded complicated explanations as to why this ludicrous situation occurs. I have rung the bank on a Friday morning and pointed out the problem, and they do the transaction there and then, but why should I have to do this when its all there live on the screen? How come they can make Faster Payment to any other account in any other bank but their own? Anyone had this problem and overcome it?

Any advice much appreciated, thanks :)

I too am having problems with Faster Payments from Santander. I have discovered that the maximum amount allowed per day for one off transfers/bills is £300, which is a totally unrealistic figure. Their website gives this information:

In the real world other banks allow these amounts:

A well known problem, £300 is for outbound payments only. If you set it up as a S/O you can send up to £1K and then cancel/change it.

Inbound FP amounts will depend on the outgoing banks limitation.

I cannot set up Standing Orders from my 3% Savings Account so am limited to the £300.

  • I have a business account and they are informing me that the £300 limit is per day, not per transaction. Also they don't allow it through online banking, so I have to telephone them each time to make a payment. Seems ludicrous to me and doesn't seem like a proper bank. There are no bank charges so I am sticking with them for now. :(

I'm still having problems with the payee who is also a Santander customer, but the £300 limit is a laugh. I paid her 1 weeks pay + 3 weeks holiday pay last week, which came to over £300 and it went through as 1 transaction on FP for the first time in ages. Great - they've sorted the problem I thought. Then tried to pay another member of staff a similar amount and had to split hers into 2 transactions as it wouldn't accept it as one - then put both of them on BACs instead of FP.

Total rubbish and I don't trust it one bit! I've written a sh1tty letter (weeks ago) but had no reply.
