Dell Studio XPS 8300 *Solved*

Okay so about 2 weeks ago I bought a brand new Dell Studio XPS 8300 (no one tell me it's crap -that's not what I'm here for) - and it was fine at first but then when I try to rip CDs, or even play CDs, the last two tracks (sometimes more) come out all crackly. And they even play that way on the computer. I have tried playing the CDs on other pcs and they work fine, I have tried playing the CDs in my player and it's fine. But the weird thing is, I can play videos, games, all other sounds fine but not CDs on Itunes, VLC, or Media Player.
I am running Windows 7, I'm unsure of the sound card but I have updated it via the dell website, and it is an i-7 pc.


Any ideas?

EDIT: Just to update that I have sorted the issue by replacing the dvd drive with one we had at home and am waiting for Dell to send me the long term replacement and there hasn't been a problem since :)

    According to Intel, ports within the chipsets may degrade over time, potentially impacting the performance or functionality of SATA-linked devices such as hard disk drives and DVD drives.

    Look for " download and run CPUID click on the motherboard tab and look at the revision of the Southbridge if it says B3 your board is fixed . and wont need to be replaced. "

    As the posts are up to 21st of May 2011 at the moment, you may have one of the errant meadow muffin sort

    So the CDs you burned were 'crackly' when you played then in the CD deck of your hi-fi?
    I have tried playing the CDs on other pcs and they work fine,
    So which CD drive is being picky at playing your home-burnt CDs? The same CD drive that was used to burn them?
    I have tried playing the CDs in my player and it's fine.
    "My player" being the CD drive in your new Dell or the CD player in your hifi?

    What software are you using to burn the CDs, some bundled rubbish from Microsoft? Have you tried Nero? What quality of CD are you using? Can you drop the burn speed? Are you overburning? Are you copying an overburnt CD onto a standard capacity CD? Is there an option in the software to error check or verify the accuracy of the burn?

    I should have been clearer in that I am not trying to burn CDs, I am merely trying to rip them to my harddrive to play on ipod etc.

    And the drive playing the crackly sound, is the drive that I copied the discs to the harddrive with.

    When I refer to my player, I mean my actual CD player at home, yes
